CHARLIE ROSE |
|
A man with a guiding vision On more than one occasion, after watching Charlie Rose interviewing a head of state or some VIP in the U.S. government, I awoke in the morning with a selfish thought in mind. Charlie Rose would make a formidable president of the United States. What a refreshing change that would be. Few political party candidates have distinguished themselves over the years, in full public view, engaging both the leadership and excellence within modern society. The guest list on the Charlie Rose Show spans incumbent and former U.S. presidents, Supreme Court justices, heads of foreign states, political and social leaders, thinkers, shakers and makers from every walk of life. What makes the Charlie Rose interview so popular? I'm sure it's because Charlie Rose selects his guests with care. He listens carefully; and, he engages each guest with a sincere desire to understand and appreciate their wisdom and talent. Authors (and their agents) may appear on Charlie's show to sell their wares; but, they quickly realize that Charlie's focus is on them and not upon their private agenda. This is as it should be. All too many talk shows are a media circus; they entertain and amuse; but, they often fail to inform. The sad truth is that many presidential political campaigns are structured along similar lines. The enlightened U.S. citizens who care enough to vote will do so on the basis of being informed, entertained or amused by their candidates. The resulting government will then reflect the quality of electorate values. When the voters place "a clown" into public office, it is only because they feel a greater need to be entertained and amused. Naturally, the elected candidate responds by entertaining us rather than to inform. In the end, we always get what we want. A nation constructed of the people, by the people and for the people needs to be informed; or, that nation will not long endure the special interests of the few who use money to influence the national agenda. If Charlie Rose is the man I believe him to be, he could inspire our federal government to restore its constitutional role. In so doing, we the people can set straight the course of this noble ship of state. I invite you to review the educational and professional qualifications of Charlie Rose--schooled in law, skilled in communications, hard working and plain speaking; a friend to all who petition with civility. A short biography of Charlie Rose can be found on the Internet at the Public Television website at www.pbs.org. If you have not yet seen him on TV (PBS and CBS), take the time to do so. Then ask yourself if this man is best qualified to lead this nation into the 21st century and to be a role model to the free world . Point him out to your voting friends; and, mention him within your political discussions. You can make a difference. We can make a difference--for the better. We owe it to the nation. We owe it to ourselves to choose wisely in this regard. Your vote counts; but, only if you have good candidates on the ballot. DRAFT CHARLIE ROSE FOR PRESIDENT
